Untitled Divine Project - Influence

Fig. 1- Character Influence Map

Since my premise was going to be about my childhood memories I decided to obviously have my characters look smaller and younger. Firstly I was thinking of having them look like normal kids, however, I decided to make the characters more fun and interesting as shown on the influence map. I was listening to 6ix9ine and saw his album covers and really liked them. I loved small the characters were and still personified the singers/ rappers.

At the corner, I searched for a roller shoe because those were big things then which gave me ideas to add relative things behind the scene and on the characters (like Easter eggs).

I decided to look at characters with a small body figure and a big head to exaggerate. I was also thinking of using the big heads as an advantage when animating as a joke, showing how heavy the head is to carry around when walking or running. For example, the head leans backwards before getting its balance.

Since I decided to go with big almost squared faces I wanted to make the world more related to the character's shapes by making the world squared.

Fig. 4 - 1st year and 2nd year Environment Map
Thinking about my world and space and how there are fewer objects and more focused on the characters. I realised it was similar to my other project in the first year when animating the carbon cycle. The plan was to make an isolated area, having the scene happen in the middle and nothing outside. However, as seen in the video below I did not add that idea into it as I thought it would be better with ought.

Looking back at my project I realised I want my world building to look more like this. Simple and clean and focus more on the characters itself. Although I could have some sophisticated shapes that we will be seeing more of in the scene connotating how important this 'thing' is.

'Bojack Horseman' is one of more favourite animated shows. I enjoy watching him going back to memory lane and trying to understand where things went wrong. For example in the first clip, we see a scribbled face which is commonly known as us trying to identify a person we don't know or can't remember.

The second clip close to the ending we see a little girl coming out of the soon to be destroyed house. As you can see she starts to fade away as it is connotating the past. This gave me the idea of a 'glitch' when thinking about things because at first is not what it seems to be. The deeper you go the clearer your vision (/memory).

And finally what inspired this imaginary game with my childhood friends was this TV show called Mega Mindy. Which was a big hit show in Belgium for kids. We would use the transformation song or effects when playing. That inspired me to have something similar. I might go for a similar art style as seen in the first video. In conclusion, this was a big part of childhood memories as well as Tv shows was how you made friends as kid mostly.
