Quentin Coldwater
• Personal history
Quentin used to live a normal life in Brooklyn till he got an invitation letter to a school called Brake bills. He and his friend Julia always played with magic thinking it was a fantasy until one day when they entered a magical school. Quinten passed the exam and schools now in Brake bills where he enhances his power. He has been killed 40 times.
• Personal worldview
He is trying to stop the monster (“the beast”) from terminating everyone and stealing magic. He sees the world of magic as a colourful place and the none magical world as a dark place.
• Inherited world
He has seen as the king of Fillory a place that people believe is a myth.
• Wants (Goals)
His goal is to kill “The Beast” and save Fillory and Brakebill from losing magic forever. Quentin has been killed 40 times because magic was used to reverse time so that he could kill “The Beast.”
• Needs
Killing the Beast and saving magic.
• Internal vs external traits
His lover dies which stops him from trying to be a hero and bounces back up to complete the quest.
• Flaws
He is clumsy, gets easily distracted when talking about fantasy.
• Overall story arc
Magic gets found and enhanced to defeat “The Beast” who dies, and all magic gets lost by a centaur who poops in the well of magic.
• Conflicts
Quinten kills his lover.

Julia is a best friend of Quentin who gets invited to the school of Brakebills to do an entrance exam. She fails the exam and is compelled to forget about the magic. However, she never forgot and decided to practice dark magic as “magic becomes a drug” to her.
She gets becomes powerful and used magic to summon a goddess who turns out to be a man-eating God. She gets raped by a God and slowly becomes a Goddess.
Her goal is to kill help her best friend kill “The Beast” and kill a God to remove her status as a Goddess as she no longer wants to partake in magic.
She becomes the Queen assistance in Fillory.
Her flaws are being an addict for magic and being insatiable.
She makes a God powerless and is stuck of being a goddess for the rest of her life.

Alice Quin
She is a very intelligent girl and brought up by a family who has strong magic. Alice breaks into the school of Brakebills without anyone knowing, where she is seen as a nerd and has her own goal to find out how her brother got killed.
She becomes a lover of Quinten and is the brain as to how to kill “The Beast.” She is one of the queens of Fillory pursuing the same goal as Quintin after finding out what happened to her brother.
She drinks the semen of a Centaur to become a temporarily God to kill the beast. She kills the beast the second time and dies in the hand of her boyfriend as she became a beast.
She doesn’t like sharing her ideas and likes to be left alone.
Her spirit lives in her boyfriend and tries to come back to life which successfully happens.

Eliot Waugh
Born in Whiteland Indiana. He grew up in a farm with a homophobic father, He discovered he had powers at the age of 14 as he killed a bully. He is jolly and makes a joke about everything with his best friend Margo. He and Margo are in their final year who builds an interest for the first-year student Quintin. They follow his quest for “fun” and now share the same fate.

Margo is insecure and strong in addition very sassy. We never see her history but only the present.
Margo is connected to Eliot as they represent inseparable friendship. Margo is in her last year in the school of Brake bills. She got interested in Alice and Quintin and just as Eliot she got dragged into the quest of defeating “The Beast” and saving magic.
She is a High Queen of Fillory. Her goals are to keep the kingdom at peace whilst completing the quest.
Her flaws are; being too real/ making jokes about something or someone and making people feel bad about themselves.

Penny was raised in Florida where he discovered he had powers and applied to an entrance exam in Brakebill. His magic began to develop so he decided to drink and take drugs to calm the voices in his head. Penny refuses offers of friendship and loses his temper very easily. He has the power to teleport anywhere he wants which is really helpful for the quest to defeat “The Beast.” Even though he wants to run away he cannot run away from the group, mostly because if his girlfriend Kady.
His goal is to defeat the beast and restore magic once more. His goal is also to find a way out of death as his spirit becomes stuck in the underworld.
He takes part in killing the beast as he teleports the beast to his death.
His flaws are that he loses his temper very easily and thinks he is smarter than everyone in the room.

Is a former student of Brakebills and is a daughter to Hanna who is a hedge-witch, that sold her daughter to Marina to fix her problems. Kady steals information from Brakebills and takes it to people who have been expelled or not been accepted at Brakebills school.
She gets expelled and helps Julia in summoning a God.
Her goal is to find love and be unchained from Marina, meanwhile defeating the beast and restoring magic back.
Flaws; being chained to Marina, and being rebellious.

• Personal history
Martin is an English man who is a former King in Fillory. Martin and his siblings discovered Fillory by entering a clock. Martin gets sexually abused by his father at a very young age and decides to lock himself in Fillory forever. Martin was encountered by magic and became stronger by the time becoming a creature everyone feared known as “The Beast.” His Sister Jane tries to stop him every time by using 7 friends who have died in 39 attempts. He kills his sister in the 40th timeline, meaning they could not go back in time ever again.
• Personal worldview
Martin sees everyone as “disgusting” and untrustworthy people. He is the most powerful in Fillory and has control over everything.
• Inherited world
Fillory because he is seen as a big threat to the people.
• Wants (Goals)
His goal is to escape Fillory and rule the world.
• Needs
He needs to get all the magic out of the well to regenerate his power.
• Internal vs external traits
After being sexually abused as a child, he became stronger and insatiable for power.
• Flaws
Being able to forgive and loses temper very easily.
• Overall story arc
He has a horrific history and becomes something powerful and is seeking to torment people, however, gets stopped by a group of friends.
• Conflicts
He torments his father, kills his sister in the 40th timeline and kills the same students 39 times.
